Game Comments: The Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis took on the Falcons of Gibson City (GCMS) in the third quarterfinal game of the day at the 803A state tournament. Tournament jitters for both teams kept it low scoring early on in the half. The second quarter saw both teams find the basket and settle into their offense. #10 Ryland Holt and #20 Nathan Garard powered the Falcons in the first half. Teutopolis’s offense was driven by #10 Dawson Smith in the first half.
The teams traded scoring drives in the third quarter, but GCMS put together a couple of stops on defense late in the quarter and converted steals to points. Late in the quarter #20 Nathan Garard drained a long three baseline to put GCMS up 31-22. For the second half, GCMS outscored Teutopolis 33-20. Leading scorer for the game was Dawson Smith for Teutopolis with 19 points. GCMS had two players in double digit; #10 Ryland Holt with 13 and #20 Nathan Garard with 15 points. Congratulations to Teutopolis on a great season. Gibson City will play tonight in the second semifinal game.
