Game Comments: In the final game of the day at the 8-2A tournament, the Vikings of Peoria St. Vincent de Paul took on the Wildcats of Decatur Robertson. Both teams fought hard
The two teams battled in the first quarter. Decatur was quick to score in the second on a nice baseline inbound play. They followed it up with a steal and lay-up to take a quick 4 point lead. The teams traded baskets several trips down the court. In the closing seconds of the half, Decatur had a 6 point lead but costly turnovers allowed Peoria to cut the lead to four going into the half-time.
The Vikings started the second half out with a wide open three by #3 Christopher Bruch and a lay-up to give St. Vincent de Paul the lead. Decatur quickly followed with a nice spin move in the paint by #3 Amir Brummett. He then added a three to take back the lead from Peoria. Decatur then strung together several trips with points in the paint to increase their lead and scored 20 points in the 3rd quarter. The Wildcats took a nine point lead into the fourth quarter. Both teams continued the battle into the fourth quarter, but the Vikings could not make up the deficit.
Leading scorer for the game Armon Brummett with 22 points. Decatur Robertson will play for their third consecutive 8-2A state title on Thursday against Carthage. Peoria St. Vincent de Paul will play against Madison in the third place game.
