Game Comments: The first quarterfinal match-up saw the Bullpups of Effingham St. Anthony take on the Blueboys of Carthage. Both teams worked through some state game jitters in the first quarter of the game. Carthage struggled with St. Anthony’s smothering defense as the Bullpups tried to figure out the Carthage press. Both teams found a rhythm in the 2nd quarter trading leads, but Carthage had the edge going into the locker-room at the half. The second half saw both teams struggle with scoring in the third quarter. Effingham St. Anthony kept the score close and in the 4th and tied the game with a three by Cade Walsh. As the game time dwindled down the Bullpups took the lead with 55 second to lay on 2 consecutive free throws by Walsh, but Carthage answered with a big three by Kennedy Gooding. Carthage continued to push the ball up the court and some costly turnovers could have cost them the game, but they were able to hang on for the game. Leading scorer for the game was Kennedy Gooding of Carthage with 30 points. Carthage will play in the first semifinal match-up tonight at 5:00. Congratulations to both teams on a great game.
