Fall Board Meeting Highlights

IESA Board Authorizes Strategic Planning

BLOOMINGTON - The first Strategic Planning in Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) history has been authorized by the Board of Directors.

Strategic Planning will be conducted the weekend of Jan. 21-22, 2005 in the IESA Office or at a site to be determined in Bloomington-Normal. Facilitator for the process will be Jim Burgett, former Highland superintendent. Participants in the Strategic Planning will include current Board and staff members, along with administrators and coaches from the different geographic IESA board divisions.

The Board also acted on the following at its regular quarterly meeting Sept. 10 in the IESA Office:

2004-05 Budget - The Board approved a budget for the current school term projecting revenue at $1,025,425 and expenses at $1,119,116. The annual budget traditionally reflects a conservative estimate of revenue, and a high estimate of expenses. Last school term the budget showed expenses exceeding revenue by $61,000 and the actual figure was $4,999. According to Executive Director Endsley, this year's budget includes a one-time cost of $10,000 for Strategic Planning.

Track and Field Standards - The Board approved boys and girls qualifying standards in the running and field events for the 2005 Class A and Class AA state series. Starting heights and increments for raising the bar in high jump and pole vault also were approved. Refer to the respective girls and boys track and field pages at www.iesa.org.

Participation Limitations By-law Changes - The Board approved a change in the wording of By-law 3.041 effective immediately to the following: "A student becomes a member of a school team when he/she practices with the school team or participates in a contest." The change adds depth to when a student becomes a member of a team. In addition, the Board approved a change to By-law 3.043 effective with the 2005-06 school term that allows students who play softball and baseball to both practice with their school team and continue to play on their non-school summer team until Monday of Week No. 6 in the Standardized Calendar. Previously, students could only try out for their school team and not practice with the school team until they concluded playing for the non-school summer team. Refer to the Minutes of the Sept. 10, 2004, Board Meeting at www.iesa.org under Old Business for a complete review of these changes.
