Celebration of Excellence

The IESA Celebration of Excellence offers the Association an opportunity to express gratitude and recognize remarkable individuals who have dedicated their time and talents to the students within our member schools. These outstanding individuals have made significant contributions to their activities in collaboration with the Association, leaving a lasting impact.

The IESA Celebration of Excellence honors and recognizes Scholar Attitude, Performing Arts Coaches, Division Sportsmanship, 20+ Year State Officials, Excellence Award, and Friends of the IESA.

This event recognizes those who exemplify sportsmanship, maintain longevity in their activities, achieve high performance, and foster lifelong friendships with the IESA. The Association is proud to celebrate their remarkable contributions and accomplishments.


Scholar Attitude Program
One student from each school who is considered exemplary is eligible to be chosen by their school as a recipient provided, he or she meets pre-determined standards.

The following requirements apply: eighth grade status, minimum 3.5 grade-point-average (on a 4.0 scale), and participation in at least one IESA activity during each of his or her junior high years and demonstration of outstanding citizenship during their tenure. In addition, each student is required to submit a typed essay titled "The Value of Sportsmanship."

Selection: A panel of judges will select 15 students- one from each of the IESA Board Divisions.

Division Sportsmanship Award
The IESA will honor schools nominated by their peers to receive the Division Sportsmanship Award. This IESA Division Sportsmanship Award recognizes outstanding behavior of a member school in each of the 15 IESA divisions. Schools are nominated by their peers in each Division in May of each school year. Each winner will receive an IESA Sportsmanship banner to hang in their school gym.

Criteria for the award: A school must be involved in at least 5 IESA activities, have no ejections or reports of unsportsmanlike conduct for the entire school in any activity (players, coaches, and/or fans) reported to the IESA office, and the school and community must exemplify all around good behavior indicative of good citizens and good sports. Ejection reports and reports of unsportsmanlike conduct submitted to the IESA office will only be accepted from a school administrator or an official working the contest being reported.

Performing Art Coaches Award
The IESA recognition program was organized as a means of recognizing, preserving and promoting interscholastic fine arts within the Association. The awards will be presented to coaches whose enthusiasm and contributions within the activity of Speech and Music have impacted their students and school community.  Nominees are submitted by peers. Recipients are selected by the respective advisory committee.

20+ Year State Officials
Honoring officials that have worked 20 plus years for the association in a specific sport. This award highlights the hard work, dedication, longevity, and excellence that officials of 20 plus years have showcased. We want to thank our officials for helping develop and guide the next generation of athletes for so many years.

Excellence Award (NEW): This award honors 2-3 individuals who have shown outstanding dedication to the IESA Chess, Music, and Scholastic Bowl programs, particularly through their significant contributions of time and talent in preparation for and participation in the state tournament.

Friends Of IESA (NEW): This award recognizes 2-3 individuals who go above and beyond to support and enhance the IESA association. Recipients can come from any activity and are honored for their exceptional commitment, dedication, and contributions to the success and growth of the association.

"Show Us Your Spirit" (NEW): Beginning Monday, October 28-March 1, 2025, the IESA will be holding a school spirit contest "Show Us Your Spirit!!". Please send all videos, pictures, or social media links of your students/fans/staff, showing POSITIVE school spirit at your IESA contests. You can email them to bailey@iesa.org. We will also post your submissions on our social media.

We will select a winner in March!

Athlete of the Meet (NEW): The top scoring male and female athlete in each classification will be recognized as the Track & Field IESA Athlete of the Meet. Winners will be announced over the PA and will receive a certificate and commemorative gift the week following the championship. The certificate and gift will be mailed to the student’s athletic director.

Sportsmanship Pins: The sportsmanship pin is awarded to one member of each team for displaying the following characteristics during the State Tournament series. The athletes selected will show a positive attitude towards teammates, opponents, and officials. They give their very best effort on the field. Does not argue calls and is respectful to officials. Always displays positive body language and helps elevate the play and behavior of their teammates and peers.

Officials Spotlight (NEW): The "Officials Spotlight of the Week" is a special recognition designed to honor the exceptional contributions and dedication of officials within the association.
