![]() Highlights from the April 4 IESA Board of Directors MeetingApril 4, 2003 **Did not approve the rally scoring system in volleyball for the 2003-04 school year. Traditional "side-out" scoring will still be used in all IESA contests. Additionally, the starting date for tryouts/practice was changed from Monday of week 19 to Monday of week 22 in the standardized calendar. For the 2003-04 school year, tryouts/practice can start December 1, 2003. **Approved the top four wrestlers from each regional to advance to the sectional. **Did not approve a recommendation from the basketball advisory committee to increase the length of a basketball quarter to seven minutes. Also, approved a recommendation to move the playing date of the girls and boys basketball sectionals from Tuesday to Wednesday. **Adopted new baseball bat regulations, effective immediately, as follows: All bats 31 inches and longer in length must meet all NFHS guidelines, including the three ounce weight vs. length differential, 2 5/8" maximum barrel diameter, and BESR label. Bats that are 30 inches and under in length that meet all NFHS guidelines, including the three ounce weight vs. length differential, a 2 5/8 inches maximum barrel diameter and BESR label are legal bats. Any bat 30 inches and under in length which does not meet the three ounce weight vs. length differential may have a maximum barrel diameter of 2 1/4 inches. These bats do no need the BESR label.
