Game Comments: The third place match-up at 8-2A saw the Hornets of Mt. Sterling Brown County take on the Lancers of Joliet Laraway. Brown County took an early lead with their press, but the Lancers settled into a rhythm and kept it close in the first quarter. The second quarter saw the Lancers make-up the difference in the game and then some. They scored 17 points in the quarter and took the lead from Mt. Sterling. After the half they continued on their pace and had a 10 point lead going into the fourth quarter. Laraway was led by #20 Devonte Pitchford and #15 Jose Grubbs. Devonte was the leading scorer for the game with 20 points and when he and Jose fouled out in the fourth quarter it was a big hit to Laraway. Mt. Sterling chipped away at the lead in the fourth quarter and with seconds to go in the game, #42 Marcus Hull swished two at the line to tie the game at 39 apiece. The Hornets then applied the pressure on the inbound and caused Joliet to turn over the ball. On the inbound for Mt. Sterling, #32 Justing Bottorff drove the lane and drained a fade away jumper as the clock ran out. Justin had 8 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter to help Mt. Sterling to their first 3rd place trophy in 8-2A. Congratulations to both teams on a hard fought game and great season.
