Game Comments: The second quarterfinal matchup between the Trojans of Elmwood and the Wildcats of Altamont was the tale of two halves. The first half was dominated by #43 Isaiah Groeper and the Trojans. Isaiah ran the court like a general and scored 15 of his game high 24 points in the first half. The Wildcats couldn’t stop him and in the first quarter it seemed like there was a bucket over their basket for most of the first quarter. The Wildcats settled into more of a rhythm in the 2nd quarter and kept the game in single digits. The second half saw Altamont pour it on. They cut the lead to 5 early in the third quarter and held Groeper to 4 points. In the fourth quarter #44Evan Cornett turned it on and scored 10 of his 17 points to lead the Wildcats to victory. Late in the fourth quarter Elmwood was down by three and #35 hit a 3 to tie the game at 38 apiece, but Altamont quickly inbounded the ball and #44 took advantage of some slow defense and drove the lane with 1.5 seconds to go to give the Wildcats the lead and the game.
Congratulations to both teams on a great season. Altamont will face Mt. Sterling Brown Co in the 5:00 semifinal game tonight.
