Game Comments: The first semi-final matchup between Mt. Sterling Brown County and Altamont was a faced paced exciting game. The Hornets kept a two point lead through the 1st and 2nd quarter, but after the half they went on a 8-0 run before the Wildcats called a timeout to stop the run. Altamont stayed with in single digits deficit through the third. At the start of the fourth quarter the intensity was turned up a notch for Mt. Sterling and they caused multiple turnovers with their press and took the lead up to 10. But just like their quarterfinal game, the Wildcats turned up the heat in the fourth quarter scoring 24 points. #20 Wyatt Stone had all 12 of his points in the final quarter. The teams traded baskets several trips down the court, but the intensity seemed to have left Brown County and found Altamont. #12 Carter Lewis saw the free throw line to tie the game for Mt. Sterling at 49-49 with 43 seconds to play. #44 Evan Cornett had a baseline jumper to give Altamont the lead at 51-49. With 20 seconds to play Mt. Sterling had the ball threw the ball away and #24 capitalized with 2 nice free throws after being fouled 53-49. With 12 seconds left Lewis drove the lane and was fouled. He made both his free throws to cut the lead to 2, but Mt. Sterling could not get the steal on the inbounds and time ran out for the Hornets.
Altamont had 3 players in double digits. Wyatt Stone with 12, Ryan Armstrong with 16 and Dakota Shepard with 14 points. Mt. Sterling also had three players in double digits; #12 Carter Lewis and Davian Drake each had 15 points and Justin Bottorff had 16 points for the Hornets. Mt. Sterling will play in the third place game on Thursday and Altamont will play in their first 8-2A title game.
