Match Comments: In semifinal #1, the Panthers of Edwardsville Liberty met the Panthers of Pekin Edison. In the first set, Pekin Edison got out to a great start behind the ferocious net play of Hannah Thompson who had 8 kills and 2 blocks. Good tip placement brought Edwardsville Liberty back into the first set. Megan Woll and Kate Martin both had 2 kills for Liberty. But it was not enough to stop the momentum of Pekin Edison. Thompson capped off the first set with an ace for Edison. In the second set, Liberty put pressure on the Edison serve receive with some great placement serves. Rachel Pranger frustrated Edison at the net by putting up 4 blocks for Liberty. Woll had 6 kills for Liberty in the second set and closed out the second set with an ace. In the final set, Liberty got out to a quick lead on Edison. Thompson did her best to rally her team by putting up 4 kills and a block for Edison. Liberty began to see some hits open up for them. Alison Conway and Rachel Vinyard each had a kill; Gabby Thomas and Kate Martin had 2 kills; and Pranger had 3 kills and 2 blocks for Liberty. Pranger finished the match for Liberty with a kill.

Pekin Edison will play in the Consolation match on Tuesday.
Edwardsville Liberty will play in the Championship match on Tuesday. |
