Match Comments: In the first semi-final match of the day, Danville Schlarman defeated the Cyclones of Cochester West Prairie two games to none to advance to the 7-2A state championship. The Hilltoppers, coming off an exciting quarterfinal battle, carried their recent momentum into game one as they stormed out to an early lead. Aleksas Dietzen was a key cog to the Hilltopper's success, as #34 tallied four aces to the lead both teams. In the end, Danville had too much fire power, taking game one by a final score of 25-15. Game two was a different story however, as the Cyclones played this one right down to the game's final points. While Danville enjoyed an early 16-12 lead, Cochester West Prairie rallied behind the strong play of Cora Vyhnanek and Pema Zellmann to ties things up at 22-22. It was not to be however, as the Hilltopper's front court was too strong, as Danville rattled off three clutch points to take the game 25-23.
The victory catapults Danville Schlarman into the 7-2A state championship next Tuesday (March 12) against the winner of this afternoon's contests. Game time will be 6:45 p.m. Cochester will vie for third place in Class 2A, as they get going at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday night.
Best of luck to both teams on their respected trophy contests! |
