Match Comments: In the second quarterfinal, the Hilltoppers of Danville Schlarman outlasted Mt. Pulaski in three games to advance to the 7-2A state semi-final. In this classic IESA battle, Danville Schlarman leaped out to an early lead in game one thanks to their solid defense and key ball movement. Right back came the Honeybears of Mt. Pulaski, however, tying the game at 23 all. As it appeared that the momentum was seized from the Hilltoppers, they converted two clutch points to take home game one. Game two was a different story, as a late run by Mt. Pulaski narrowed things up at one game apiece. With things all evened up heading into game three, it was Danville Schlarman capitalizing on second chance opportunities to build their lead. Aleksas Dietzen led the way, especially late for the Hilltoppers, contributing six aces and 12 service points that fueled Danville's game three surge. Meanwhile, Mt. Pulaski struggled to take advantage of some key serves en route to their eventual defeat. Regardless of the loss, the Honeybears fought admirably until the final point. Skyler Hayes of Mt. Pulaski tallied 13 service points while three Honeybears all had an ace apiece.

With the victory, Danville moves on to the state semi-final against this morning's previous winner in Colchester West Prairie. Game time is 1:00pm.

Congratulations to both teams on a terrific quarterfinal matchup!
