Game Comments: The start of the final match-up pf the day saw the Falcons of Rockford Flinn vs. the Meteors of Mokena. Both teams were pretty evenly matched in the first half. Mokena was able to eek a four point lead into the locker-room at the half.
The third quarter saw more energy out of the Falcons. They played their high pressure press causing several quick turnovers that they converted on to tie the game at 20 apiece. The teams traded baskets over the next several minutes of the quarter. In the last minute of the quarter, Mokena had several good defensive stops and converted on the offensive side to give themselves a four point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Rockford quickly tied the game in the fourth quarter converting on missed opportunities by Mokena. But Mokena regained the lead on an open three followed by an uncontested lay-up. The Meteors continued to move the ball into the post and to the open player taking advantage of Flinn’s double teams. With 1:40 to play in the game, Mokena had a 5 point lead, but Flinn kept up the pressure. With a minute to play and four points down, the Falcons called a time-out to regroup plan. Grabbing the rebound they quickly moved the ball up the court but were unable to convert on the free throws. Mokena’s #22 LoConte drained a baseline three with 25 seconds to play to give them the lead for good.
Rockford Flinn will play in the third place game against Liberty on Thursday and Mokena will play for their first state title against Morton JHS. |
