Game Comments: Bloomington JHS jumped quickly on a sluggish Edwardsville Liberty in the first quarter this morning. The Knights were led by #35 Dasha Johnson-Blessing and #44 Alexis Noonan. They held Liberty scoreless in the first quarter of the game. Once Edwardsville settled the jitters they were able to cut into Bloomington’s lead in the second quarter of the game. #32Maria Smith and #33 A’Ana Garrett led the way for the Panthers. A clean block by Garrett late in the second quarter and then A’Ana powered up a lay-up to cut Bloomington’s lead to 2. Noonan had a quick answer to give Bloomington a 4 point lead heading into the locker-room at the half.
The second half was a slow start for both teams, but Edwardsville settled in quickly and turned up the heat on their defense holding Bloomington to three points in the third quarter and adding nine points of their own to take their first lead of the game. Bloomington broke their scoring drought in the fourth quarter by a jumper by Noonan, but the Panthers continued their relentless defense and offensive boards to advance to the semifinal tonight. Congratulations to Bloomington JHS on a great season. Good Luck to Edwardsville Liberty as they advance in the tournament.
