| Game Comments: Monticello won the Class 3A title Thursday night and finished the season with a perfect 28-0 record with a 27-25 victory over the Eureka Hornets. The game was a rematch of last years 7th grade 3A championship game in which Monticello won, 39-25. Monticello scored the first eight points of the 1st quarter but Eureka cut the lead in half by scoring the last four points of the first quarter. The two teams scored the identical amount of points in the second quarter as Monticello took a 16-8 lead into the locker room at the half. The Sages extended the lead to 25-16 after three quarters but the Hornets did not quit. They held Monticello to just two free throws in the 4th quarter while they scored nine to get the lead to two at 27-25. The last points for Eureka came on a 3 pointer by Tessa Leman as the buzzer sounded to end the game. Leman and Hayley Coffman led Eureka with 9 points apiece while Zanna Myers scored a game high 13 points to lead the Sages to the title. Congratulations to both teams. |
