| Game Comments: The Monticello Sages continued their quest for an undefeated season Tuesday evening by defeating the Auburn JHS Trojans 19-15. The win for the Sages pushes their season record to 26-0 while Auburn completes their season with 23 wins and just 2 loses. Both teams played good defense, both had numerous turnovers, and both had an off night shooting the ball. Auburn led 3-2 after the first period but then did not score in the second stanza as Monticello took a 7-3 lead into the locker room at the half. Neither team scored for the first 2 1/2 minutes of the third period until Katryel Clark for Auburn scored a bucket to pull the Trojans to within two at 7-5. However, that was as close as Auburn would get the rest of the game. Monticello got a layup from Emily Wilson to extend the lead to four and then got a three point basket from Aliyah Welter to make it 12-5. Auburn then countered with a conventional three point play when Clark was fouled and she made the free throw to bring the Trojans back to a four point deficit, 12-8. Welter opened the fourth quarter with her second 3 point goal of the game to make it a 15-8 lead for the Sages which was enough cushion for the rest of the game. Monticello will now play Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. against Dolton Lincoln. Congratulations to both teams. |
