Game Comments: In what was a Class 1A State Championship game for the ages, the Hilltoppers of Danville Schlarman narrowly defeated the Flyers of Bartonville Monroe by the final score of 44-40. Early on in the first quarter it was all Flyers, as Bartonville Monroe grabbed a quick 6-0 lead. That lead wouldn't last long, however, as Schlarman's Capria Brown sank two quick buckets to cut the lead to just one point heading into the second quarter. Brown continued to find her groove as the game progressed before half, as she along with Anaya Peoples, combined for all 14 of Danville Schlarman's second quarter points. That surge of offense was enough to give the Hilltoppers a 19-15 lead heading into the half. After a stagnant third quarter by both teams, the Hilltoppers remained ahead 31-24. Facing a deficit that was growing bigger by the second, the Flyer offense finally began to click behind Hailey West and Sydney Hannam. The two girls combined for 12 fourth quarter points, and at one point tied the game at 33. However, the story of the second half and likely the game was the outstanding play of Anaya Peoples. The standout guard took over the game, especially late as her four straight free throws were the key to the Hilltopper victory. Peoples finished with an astounding 24 points, including 19 in the second half. Zoie Wall of Bartonville Monroe finished with a team high 13 points for the Flyers.

Congratulations to both teams on a fantastic championship game!
