Game Comments: Game two of today's Class 1A quarterfinal action saw the Hilltoppers of Danville Schlarman hold off a furious comeback from Augusta Southeastern to advance 36-32. Early on, it was all Hilltoppers, as they held the Suns to just 8 first half points. Meanwhile, the Schlarman offense was clicking on all cylinders, led by #3 Anaya Peoples. The standout guard tallied 15 first half points en route to an 18-8 halftime lead for the Hilltoppers. The 3rd quarter was much of the same, with Danville Schlarman extending their lead by two heading into the 4th quarter. It was then when Delaney Lantz and her Lady Sun teammates staged an impressive rally to close the game within 2 after trailing by as many as 12. Lantz notched 12 4th quarter points, which fueled the comeback attempt for her Lady Suns. Down just two with under a minute to go, Augusta Southeastern was poised to do the impossible when a key turnover resulted in a quick Hilltopper bucket. Lantz finished with 17 points while Anaya Peoples remained a force throughout the game, finishing with game high 26 points.
With the win, Danville Schlarman will now face the Wildcats of Springfield Christian in today's semi-final contest. That key matchup is set to begin at 5:00pm.
