Game Comments: In the first quarterfinal Class 1A contest of the day, the Wildcats of Springfield Christian used a strong 4th quarter to defeat the Irish of Washington St. Patrick by the final score of 34-26. Early on, both teams struggled shooting the ball, as the first quarter saw only a combined total of 9 points. The tempo did begin to pick up in the second, with both teams trading baskets to end the half. This eventually led to a 12-12 tie heading into the lockerroom. Washington's offense saw six different shooters tally points in the first half, while Springfield Christian was paced by Maddie Manker and her five first half points. After a third quarter that saw the Wildcats grab a 20-16 lead, Manker and her teammates cranked up the heat on Washington. The standout center knocked in 8 of her eventual game high 19 points, as Springfield Christian used a 14 point fourth quarter to pull away. Lex Morrison and Lily Harlan both tallied six points for Washington, as the Irish finished their season with a final record of 19-2.

With the victory, the Wildcats advance to this afternoon's semifinal contest against the winner of Danville Schlarman and Augusta Southeastern. That semifinal matchup is set to tipoff at 5:00pm.

Congratulations to both teams on a tremendous display of sportsmanship.
