| Game Comments: The Wenona Fieldcrest Knights set an 8th grade Class 3A record for most points in a game with a 49-42 victory over the Heat of Stronghurst West Central. The Knights advance to the semifinals of the 3A tournament and will play later today at 5:00 p.m. The 49 points by the Knights eclipsed the previous record for most points in a game by one. West Central started off strong taking a 13-8 lead after one quarter. Katie Droste and Joni Lafary combined for 11 of their team's 13 points in the first quarter. Fieldcrest applied a full court defense that forced many turnovers and the Knights took advantage by outscoring the Heat 13-7 in the second quarter to take a 21-20 lead into the locker room at halftime. The second half was an up and down contest as both teams applied full court pressure defense. Every time the Heat made a bit of a run, the Knights were able to answer with a basket of their own. Controlling the tempo for Fieldcrest was Gwen Lohr-Fandel who led the Knights with 17 points. The Heat made a bit of a run to open the 4th quarter but Wenona received some balanced scoring and held on for the victory. Congratulations to both teams on a terrific season and a well-played contest. |
