Game Comments: Morton JHS defeated Chatham Glenwood in the second semifinal game of the evening, 25-21 and in doing so sets up a championship game on Thursday, Dec. 6 that will pit the undefeated Edwardsville Liberty Panthers against the Jr. Potters. Liberty will enter the contest with a perfect 27-0 record while Morton will take their 26-0 record into the game. Chatham will square off against Mokena in the 3rd place game on Thursday. The Titans led 6-5 after one quarter but Morton played terrific defense in the 2nd quarter limiting the Titans to just one point in the second stanza taking an 11-7 lead into the locker room at the half. Morton extended the lead to seven after three quarters and appeared to be in control of the game. However, the Titans came roaring back in the 4th quarter and only trailed by two, 19-17, with 1:41 left in the game. After a Morton missed layup and a turnover by Glenwood, Morton got the ball in the hands of Josi Becker who was fouled as she drove to the basket. Becker made both free throws to give Morton a 21-17 lead with 1:01 showing on the clock. Cecilia Curran then put a rebound basket in for Chatham to cut the lead to two at 21-19 with just :47 showing on the clock. Morton brought the ball down the court and then with :30 seconds left, Crystal Cobbler made a layup and was fouled. She missed the free throw and Morton had a 23-19 lead. Ciara Lahr then connected for Glenwood on a layup to cut the lead back to two, 23-21, with 15 seconds remaining. Morton again got the ball in the hands of Becker who was fouled with 5 seconds showing on the clock. Becker made both ends of the one and bouus to seal the victory for the Jr. Potters and send them to the championship game. Congratulations to both teams.
