Game Comments: The Litchfield Panther Cubs took the next step toward claiming another girls basketball state championship by defeating the Knights of Wenona Fieldcrest, 44-26, in the last quartefinal game of the day. Litchfield, which won the 2009 7th grade Class 3A championship, will now play Pleasant Plains in the 6:30 p.m. semifinal contest. Last year, these two teams met for the 7th grade championship which Litchfield won, 42-24. Against Fieldcrest, Litchfield jumped to an early 12-2 lead and after the first quarter, it was a relatively close game. Riley Scharf led all scorers with 20 points with 12 of those points coming in the second half which helped keep Fieldcrest at bay. Tessa Holland led the Knights with 8 points. Litchfield will enter the rematch with Pleasant Plains with a 25-1 record while Fieldcrest wraps up their season with a terrific 21-5 record. Congratulations to both teams.
