Game Comments: Flanagan used a strong 3rd quarter to defeat Bourbonnais Maternity BVM, 39-31, Saturday night and advances to the championship game of the 7th Grade Class 1A tournament. The game was tied at 16 at halftime but the Falcons outscored BVM 12-4 in the decisive 3rd quarter. With three minutes left in the game and the Falcons holding a six point lead at 31-25, BVM got a layup to cut the lead to four at 31-27 and it appeared that the game would go down to the wire. BVM got the ball back and missed a wide open layup that would have cut the lead to two. From that point on it was almost all Flanagan and in particular Ashley Van Weelden came to life. Van Weelden scored seven of her game-high 15 points in the 4th quarter. She made a layup with 2:21 remaining to extend the lead to six again, 33-27. BVM then missed another layup and with 1:45 left Sam Lyons hit a 5 footer in the lane to give the Falcons an 8 point lead at 35-27. BVM then missed two free throws and on the opposite end, Van Weelden hit a layup to make it a 10 point lead. Kelly Rudin made 2 free throws for the Wildcats to make it an 8 point game with :46 remaining. Van Weelden answered again with :32 left to push the lead to 10. BVM got a layup as time was running out to make the final score 39-31. Flanagan will take their 16-10 record into Thursday's night championship game while BVM will play for third place honors.
