IESA Board Announces Activity Schedule For Remainder of 2020-21 School Year

The IESA Board of Directors held its regularly scheduled winter meeting on Friday, January 29. During the meeting the Board addressed the activity schedules for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year and other items related to IESA activities. A complete synopsis of the entire meeting will be available on Monday and will be posted on the IESA homepage.

Listed below is the action the Board took on each of the remaining activities. The Board had earlier made the decision that the dates for the regional and sectional boys basketball would not be held.

  • Girls Volleyball---The state series will be held as scheduled. The higher seeded team will host all regional contests.
  • Girls Basketball---The state series dates for regional and sectional play were cancelled
  • Boys Wrestling---The regional date was cancelled
  • Girls and Boys Bowling---The state series dates for sectional and state were cancelled
  • Girls and Boys Track and Field---The sectional and state final dates were not cancelled and tentatively remain as scheduled. A decision on conducting those events will be made later and hopefully no later than March 1.

Contact days which may begin immediately were approved for the following sports:
Girls Basketball---10 contact days (practice scheduled to start March 8)
Track and Field---10 contact days (practice scheduled to start March 1)
Wrestling---20 contact days (practice scheduled to start April 5)
NOTE: Contact days count as practice days needed to participate in a contest

The state chess competition scheduled for February 26-27 was previously cancelled. Decisions were also made on the remaining non-athletic activities as follows:

Competitive Cheerleading---There will not be a statewide cheer competition as has been held in previous years due to IDPH guidelines. However, schools will be able to submit a video of their cheer performance to the IESA. The video will be judged and schools will receive a rating and have the opportunity to purchase a plaque based on the rating.

Scholastic Bowl---The state series (regional, sectional, state) has been cancelled. Schools are strongly encouraged to continue conducting regular season competition. Many schools have been conducting virtual matches if traditional in-person matches are not allowed.

Music Solo & Ensemble---Solo and ensemble contests may be held locally as schools will host events for only their students.

Music Organizational---Schools will submit their recording online to the IESA Office. Judges will review the recordings and rate each performance.
