IESA HeadlinesUpdate on Basketball and Volleyball1/19/21 To All IESA Member Schools: The following information should be helpful to you and your coaches as you prepare for your boys basketball and girls volleyball seasons. To help make sense of this and understand it a bit better, the first question to ask yourself is what is the mitigation level of your EMS region. Once you know the mitigation level, then the links below should answer many of your questions. Please follow the links below depending on the mitigation level your region of the state is currently placed: https://www.iesa.org/COVID/Phase4.asp https://www.iesa.org/COVID/Tier1.asp https://www.iesa.org/COVID/Tier2.asp If you are in a region that is still in Tier 3, your boys basketball and girls volleyball must remain paused and there are no interscholastic games in these sports allowed and only one-on-one practice are allowed. As of today, regardless of the mitigation level your region is in, there no boys basketball contests allowed. Boys basketball practice with intra-team scrimmage would be allowed for those schools in regions where the mitigation level is at Phase 4 or Tier 1. Only non-contact boys basketball practice would be allowed if you are in Tier 2. Girls volleyball practice can be held for regions in Phase 4, Tier 1, or Tier 2. Volleyball matches can be played if your region is in Tier 1 or Phase 4. All must be done in accordance with the above links. The following link will provide additional information: The IESA Board of Directors has a meeting scheduled for Friday, Jan. 29. At that meeting we will discuss the feasibility of conducting state series activities for the remaining sports and non-athletic activities. Please contact our office if you have any questions. As always, thanks for your patience and understanding as we adjust to changes that are being made. Sincerely, Steve Endsley |
