IESA HeadlinesIESA Class A State Track and Field Meet 8th Grade ResultsBecause weather conditions Saturday at the IESA State Track and Field Meet did not allow for the 8th grade boys and girls pole vault event to be conducted safely, that event was held yesterday (Monday, May 16). With the pole vault event now officially completed, all the Class A meet results (team and individual) are now official and posted on the IESA website. Here is a brief summary of the 8th grade classes: 8th Grade Girls Peoria St. Philomena captured the girls team title with 29 points. Cece Ricca was the only first place winner for St. Philomena. Ricca won the 8th grade girls 400 meter dash in a time of :59.49. She also placed 2nd in the 200. Abby Ricca placed 6th in the 1600 meter run while their 4 x 400 relay team finished second to round out their scoring. Assumption Central A & M and Findlay Okaw Valley tied for 2nd with 26 points each while Springfield Christ the King placed 4th place with 25 points. No records were set in the 8th grade girls meet. 8th Grade Boys Cissna Park took home the boys title with 52 points. Devon Laubscher won 3 individual titles (100, 200 and long jump) while Ben Jennings, an IESA Scholar Attitude award winner, took home first place honors in the 100 hurdles and a 7th place finish in the shot put. Cissna Park also won the 4 x 200 meter relay, Peoria Christian took home second place honors with 40 points while East St. Louis Jackson finished 3rd with 28 points. Kewanee Wethersfield jumped from 7th place Saturday night to 4th place after the pole vault by virtue of a 5th place finish and a tie for 6th place in the pole vault that was held on Monday. No records were set in the 8th grade boys meet. |
