IESA Class A State Track & Field Summary--Erie Takes Home Team Titles in 7th Grade Girls and Boys

Class A Track & Field

Despite some of the worst weather conditions of an already brutal spring weather season, the IESA Class A state track and field meet was held Friday and Saturday at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria. Because of the weather and the rain, the 8th grade boys and girls pole vault event will be held on Monday, May 16. The complete individual results for all events are posted on the IEA website www.iesa.org. Team results for 7th grade are listed in this summary and the 8th grade team results will be posted after the conclusion of the pole vault event on Monday. The 7th grade competition is complete through all 14 events. Here is a brief summary on each of the 4 classes:

7th Grade Girls
Team Champion Erie 51.5 points
Runner-up Catlin 33 points
Third Place Champaign St. Matthew 32 points
Third Place Kewanee Wethersfield 32 points

Three records were set: Alexis Pierre-Antoine of Evergreen Park St. Bernadette set a record in the 100 meter hurdle when she ran 15.67 in the preliminaries. The old record was held by Jennifer Monk of Bloomington Holy Trinity who ran a 15.93 in 2004. Pierre-Antoine bettered her mark in the semi-finals by .01 when she ran 15.66. That record stood for about 24 hours as she then lowered her own record in the finals when she scorched the field en route to first place in a time of 15.38.

The 7th grade girls pole vault record fell when Lindsey Brown from Kewanee Wethersfield cleared 9'4.25". The old record was held by Emily Clay from Bloomington Cornerstone Academy at 9' 4".

The third 7th grade girls record that fell was in the long jump. Jenny Kimbro from Catlin now has the record with a jump of 16' 7.75". The old record was held by Dawn Kernich from Carlinville who jumped 16'3.5" in 2002.

7th Grade Boys

Runner-up Rock Falls St. Andrew 46 points
Third Place Chrisman Scottland 31 points
Fourth Place Casey-Westfield 25 points

Two records were set in the 7th grade boys meet. Brady Rude of Rock Falls St. Andrew ran a :53.55 in the 400 meter dash to break the record set last year by Tyler Schuring of Arthur in :54.15 Nick Meunier of Gibson City GCMS also broke the Schuring's record with a :53.75 to finish second to Rude.

The second 7th grade boys record that was broken was one of the oldest records in the history of the IESA. Tanner Hull of Bloomington St. Mary's soared to a 7A boys record of 11'6" breaking the mark set in 1986 by Todd Foster of Washington Pleasant View who cleared 10'10.5".

8th Grade Girls

Team results are incomplete due to the pole vault event which will be completed on Monday, May 16. They will be posted on the IESA website after the event is completed.

Through 13 events, Peoria St. Philomena is the leader in team points with 29, Assumption Central A & M and Findlay Okaw Valley are tied for 2nd with 26 points each while Springfield Christ the King is currently in 4th place with 25 points. All of the 8th grade girls team scores are subject to change pending the result of the pole vault event.

No records were set in the 8th grade girls meet.

8th Grade Boys

Team results are incomplete due to the pole vault event which will be completed on Monday, May 16. They will be posted on the IESA website after the event is completed.

Through 13 events, Cissna Park is the leader in team points with 52, Peoria Christian is second with 40 points, East St. Louis Jackson is in 3rd place with 28 points and Rock Falls St. Andrew is in 4th place with 25 points. All of the 8th grade boys team scores are subject to change pending the result of the pole vault event.

No records were set in the 8th grade boys meet.
