IESA HeadlinesClass A Track Team titles to Lexington, Carthage, Bismarck-Henning and HeyworthEAST PEORIA - Lexington won 7A Girls, Carthage won 7A boys, Bismarck-Henning won 8A girls and Heyworth won 8A boys team titles Saturday in the 2006 IESA Class A State Final Track and Field Meet Saturday at the EastSide Center's Corwin Clatt Stadium. Lexington's girls edged Tremont, 45-43 for the 7A title. Carthage won the 7A boys team title with 38 points. Bismarck-Henning's 8A girls team scored 33 points for the win. Heyworth's 8A boys team rolled to an easy with 50 points. Metamora St. Mary's was second with 34.5. Following are the highlights of Saturday's competition: 7A Girls Tremont's dynamic duo of Hannah Booker and Jamee Holmes finished 1-2 in the 800-meter run Saturday, following their 1-2 finish Friday in the 1600-meter run. Booker took the 800 in a time of 2:26.60 and Holmes was second at 2:27.65. Tremont's 4 x 400 relay also won in 4:27.72. Emily Clay of Bloomington Cornerstone defended her pole vault title with a 7A record 9-4. She went 7-11 last year as a sixth grader. Lay attempted to break the all-time pole vault mark of 10-0 and missed three times at 10-0 �. She hit the bar on the way down on the first trey at the all-time record. This year's sixth grade sensation was Heyworth's Cassidy Strohl, who blistered the field in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.66. Strohl fought off a late challenge from Girard's Samantha Simpson, who took second in 1:04.86. 8A Girls Jessica Brito of Bismarck-Henning and Kelly Curran of Bloomington Holy Trinity continued their winning ways Saturday. Brito, who won the long jump Friday, took the 400-meter dash in 1:01.70. Curran, who took the 1600-meter run Friday won the 800 Saturday in 2:27.02. Morgan Ryan of Metamora GS set the 8A girls pole vault record with a leap of 9-0. She missed three tries at 9-6. 7A Boys Judson Wienke of Tuscola East Prairie won both the shout put and the discus. He tied the 7A record in the shot put with a toss 45-8. His winning throw in the discus was 131-1. 8A Boys Jase Wilson of Heyworth won the 100, 200 and anchored his team's winning 4 x 100 relay and then placed fifth in the shot put. Wilson roared to an easy win in the 100 in :11.9, and bulled his way to the win in the 200 in :24.08. Heyworth's winning relay ran :48.36 to edge Peoria St. Philomena at :48.39. Wilson closed at the finish to win the event. Wilson threw the shot put 42-3. |
