IESA Headlines3 Records Set Friday in Class AA State Track MeetEAST PEORIA - Three records were set in Friday's first day of competition in the 2006 IESA Class AA State Final Track and Field Meet at Corwin Clatt Stadium in the EastSide Centre. Anthony Pierson of Cahokia Wirth blistered the 7AA boys record in the 100-meter dash winning his heat in a time of :11.11, bettering the old mark of :11.58 by Travis Mullen of Normal Kingsley in 2005. The all-time record for boys in the 100 is :11.00 set in 1984 by Anthony White of Phoenix Coolidge. Jeremy Nicholson of East St. Louis Lincoln set the 7AA boys long jump record with a leap of 20-4.5. The old 7AA mark was 20-3.25 set in 2004 by Derrick Diggins of Galesburg Lombard. Jennifer Costello led a 1-2 Carlinville sweep in the 7AA girls pole vault, winning with a 7AA record vault of 9-4. The old record was 9-3 set by Megan Emmons of Green Valley in 2005. Costello missed three times at 9-6. Her teammate Jenna Wernsing finished second in the event with a vault of 9-0. Carlinville's 7AA girls team picked up first place finishes in two other field events. Kelsey Car won the discus with a toss of 99-10 and the shot put in 33-9. Katie Graham took the high jump at 4-11. On the day, Carlinville racked up 48 points in the field events. Tom Pacy of Paxton-Buckley-Loda won the 8Aa boys 1600-meter run with a strong kick down the stretch in 4:43.79. Pacy won the 7AA 1600-meter run last year. Ryan Mitsos of New Lenox Liberty won the 7AA boys 1600 in a time of 4:46.71. |
