Taylor McGlaughlin of Danville Oakwood is like all of the 2009 winners in that her list of activities and accomplishments is a long one, covering most opportunities available in her school and community. She's also different from the other winners in several ways.

For one, in response to the question who you admire most and why, Taylor wrote that she doesn't believe you can admire only one person and she listed three. She says you should surround yourself with the kind of people you can admire every day. She calls her mother a superwoman balancing a full-time job, schooling, and Taylor's activities. She says her best friend is amazing for having beaten cancer and how her positive attitude has been infectious, so much so that Taylor expects to pursue a medical career. She also mentions her eighth grade basketball coach for teaching her countless lessons.

She's most proud of herself for saving her brother from serious burns after a roman candle lit his coat on fire. She had the presence of mind to push him to the ground and roll him over to suffocate the fire before he was seriously hurt.
