Malachi Snyder

The Board of Directors Division E recognizes Malachi Snyder as the Scholar Attitude Award winner for his academic achievements and commitment to excellence in interscholastic activities.

Malachi has been named to High Honor Roll every year. He participates in basketball, baseball, wrestling and band. One of his basketball coaches is the person Malachi admires most. "Coach Andrew pushes the team really hard," Malachi says, "because he knows we can go far and strives to make us better basketball players and people. I admire him so much because of how much he cares about us."

Malachi says he feels fortunate for the opportunities he has been given. This became evident to him in a few ways. In junior high Malachi missed a week of school with a serious eye infection. "I couldn't go outside or do any sports," he says. "When I could finally play sports and return to school, it felt amazing. I felt a weight lifted off of my shoulders because I could forget what happened." In addition, Malachi says he realizes that he has been given many opportunities that other people haven't received when he observes homeless people on the streets. "I wish I could give people a home to live in," he says. "This would give them the opportunity to succeed in life."

After high school Malachi hopes to go to college to pursue a career in the medical profession. He's inspired to follow in the footsteps of his mother, who works as a nurse, in attending Purdue University Northwest.
