Noah HollisElmwood![]() Principal: Mr. Tony McCoy For his exceptional academic performance and leadership in interscholastic activities, Noah Hollis is awarded the Scholar Attitude Award for Board of Directors Division F.Noah has maintained a 5.0 grade point average while participating in cross country, basketball, track, chorus, Science Olympiad, and Student Council. Noah says interscholastic activities have taught him to be the best leader he can be. "I have learned that things are not always going to go your way and people are not always going to like you," he says. "Sometimes being the leader is not fun." Noah is most proud of his lawn-mowing business - Hollis Brothers Mowing and More - which he owns and runs with his brother, Caleb. Owning a small business has taught Noah how to schedule his time carefully and how to save money and balance a checking account. "I am proud we have paid off the loan for our mower and made over $6,000 in just three years!" With two sisters with Down syndrome, Noah has witnessed prejudice and bullying directed toward his family. Noah and his brother made a video that attempted to educate people about the power of the slur "retard." The video went viral with nearly one million views, and Noah says people have told him the video changed their behavior. "If I could have the opportunity to change the world, I would make sure that everyone is treated with the best 'r' word possible - respect," he says. After high school Noah plans to study architecture or civil engineering in college. "In addition to being safe, I would like to design buildings that are high tech and visually appealing, while being accessible to everyone," he says. |
