Leah ParkAnnawan![]() Principal: Mr. Wayne Brau For her commitment to academic excellence and passion for interscholastic activities, Leah Park has been chosen as the Scholar Attitude Award winner for Board of Directors Division B.In fact, being nominated for the Scholar Attitude Award is Leah's proudest accomplishment thus far. It is difficult to win, she says. "Many people hear about this award and believe I should be proud." Leah participates in cheerleading, Student Council, basketball, volleyball, track, speech, choir, band, and Maroon Platoon in addition to maintaining high honor roll and other academic honors. She says the overlapping seasons between cheerleading and girls' basketball proved particularly difficult for her in seventh grade. Practice for one activity was often followed by a game for another sport. "I handled it by using bus rides for school or games as time to study or do homework," she says. "My basketball teammates and fellow cheerleaders helped me study and do homework. They also supported me and gave me more confidence." This type of support from friends is a benefit of her participation in interscholastic activities, Leah says. She's also gained confidence and learned how to work with others, particularly through disagreements. "Athletic activities have taught me ways to have fun and become stronger in safe ways," she explains. "I have learned how to be a good sport and how important that is." After high school graduation, Leah plans to attend college. Mathematics is a strong possibility of study. She also enjoys fine arts and believes high school will help her determine a path forward. |
