Evan StegallMacomb![]() Principal: Ms. Dana Isackson For his participation in interscholastic activities, strong citizenship, and hard work ethic, Evan Stegall was selected as the Scholar Attitude Award winner for Board of Directors Division J.By being involved in scholastic bowl, cross country, and chorus, Evan has learned humility, perseverance, and the value of teamwork. He attests to learning countless valuable lessons from his interscholastic participation and he believes his involvement has helped him grow as a person. Those lessons were put to the test when Evan broke his arm 10 weeks before the YMCA swimming state championships. After recovering, he had only four weeks to train for the meet - of which he spent six to seven days per week swimming. Evan made it to the podium in each of his events, including five championship titles. Evan is most proud of maintaining straight As while keeping a demanding athletics and activities schedule. To chase his dream of becoming an Olympic swimmer, Evan joined a club swim team. The commitment requires many hours of practice and travel, but he considers the professional-level training worth it. Evan notes, "My schedule feels like a treadmill sometimes, but I continue to improve in swimming and my grades remain high. My time management and organization skills have improved because I have to use every minute to my advantage. I realized achieving your goals is worth all the hard work and sacrifice." Post-high school, Evan hopes to study pre-med at University of California-Berkeley with aspirations to become a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Equally, he wishes to swim for his college team. |
