Game Comments: The 7-4A championship game saw the Tigers of East St. Louis Lincoln take on the Knights of Champaign Franklin. The first half saw the Tigers take an early lead with intense defense that Franklin struggled with early on. Every time Franklin made a attempt to cut the lead the Tigers had an answer. In the second quarter the Tigers slowed their offense down and Franklin played their zone smothering the post players from Lincoln, but was only able to cut the lead to 8 points going into halftime.
The second half saw missed opportunities by both teams for the first two minutes until Lincoln finally got into a rhythm. Franklin struggled in this half as Lincoln held them to 3 points in the third quarter. A 15-point differential going into the fourth quarter was too much for the Knights to overcome. Leading scorers for the game were #22 Chantuan Gillespie and #15 Willie Matthews who both put in 14 points for Lincoln. #23 Jaden Roberts gave Franklin 11 points in the game. Congratulations to East St. Louis Lincoln on their second 7-4A State Championship.
