Game Comments: The final semifinal game between the Little Giants of Canton Ingersoll and the Knights from Champaign Franklin was the best game of the day. These two teams fought hard for the right to play in the championship game. In the first half it was the tale of two quarters. The first quarter saw the Knights jump out to an early lead and capture the momentum. Running their offense and spreading the ball to multiple players. The second quarter saw the Little Giants swing the momentum their way and take over the scoring. #23 Collin Dietz started his rain of threes in this quarter and landed two to help tie up the game at the half.
The second half of the game was a hard fought battle. The third quarter saw both teams back on the board with Canton holding the slight 2-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Dietz added two more threes in the third to help maintain that lead. Early in the fourth quarter there were several beautiful back door pass from 23 Jaden Roberts to 5 Tim Finke of Champaign Franklin to help tie the game and from this point the game seesawed back and forth between the two teams. With a three point lead, Champaign inbounds the ball under the Canton basket and makes the unfortunate mistake of scoring for the other team. The game is now 35-34. Play continues and 1:11 to play Dietz makes his final three of the game to tie it up at 37 apiece. The teams’ trade trips down the court and with 3 seconds left in regulation, #14 Isaiah Bowers is fouled and is on the line for the win with a one and one. After his miss, Champaign runs a great inbounds play and gives Finke a look at a long range three which hits the back of the basket and bounces out. Overtime!
In overtime, Franklin wins the jump and quickly sets up the their offense to take the lead on a basket by Roberts, but Canton comes right back down and #14 hits the free throw line to tie it up again at 39. On the other end of the court, Franklin drove the lane and was fouled. #30 made one of two and gave the lead to the Knights which they would not relinquish. Leading scorer of the game was Collin Dietz with 17 points. Tim Finke for Champaign Franklin had 16 and Jaden Roberts added 13 for the Knights.
Congratulations to both teams on a hard fought game. Canton Ingersoll will play for 3rd place and Champaign Franklin will play for the 7-4A title game on Thursday night.
