Match Comments: The gym in Assumption was packed for the 7-3A championship match-up between Maroa-Forsyth and Pleasant Plains. The jitters were obvious for both teams in the first set as we went around the serving order with passing errors and mental mishaps. When #4 Lexi Thomas stepped up to serve her second time she fired off 9 straight points with 5 aces and gave Pleasant Plains the lead for good. Plains was led at the net by #15 Jenny Rush and #22 Molly Gebhards in the first set. The second set started a bit differently as Maroa took a quick lead. They got service points from #4 Carly Mason and #3 Morgan Thatcher to give Maroa an 8-4 lead. But Redbirds reeled the set back in and stayed close to the Trojans until they took advantage of a big kill from the back row by #6 Megan Gallagher to tie the set at 11 a piece. Megan then took over the serve and gave Pleasant Plains the lead at 14-11. This lead would not be relinquished by the Redbirds. Lexi Thomas added 3 aces and 7 service points in this set to help give Pleasant Plains the match. #5 Molly Smarjesse had a kill to take the set to match point and once again the Redbirds finished out the match. Congratulations to both teams on a great season. Congratulations to Coach Dufour and Pleasant Plains Redbirds on their second consecutive state title in 7-3A.
