| Game Comments: The first game of the 7th grade Class 1A girls basketball tournament was a nail biter as the Lancers of Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes hung on for a 25-20 victory over the Sharpshooters of Sigel St. Michael's. The Lancers led 10-4 at halftime as both teams showed some first game jitters in the first half. St. Michael's came out strong in the third quarter outscoring the Lancers 9-2 in the period to take a 13-12 lead into the fourth quarter. Marie Delaney scored 6 of her game high 10 points for OLOL in the 4th quarter as the Lancers came back to win the contest. Both teams played hard and in the end they will both look to improve their free throw shooting. OLOL made just one free throw in 14 attempts while the Sharpshooters only made 12 of their 30 charity tosses. OLOL will now play in the first semifinal game of the evening later today at 5:00 p.m. as they will take on the winner of the Jacksonville Our Saviour vs. Peoria St. Mark contest. |
