Game Comments: The third game of the 8th grade Class 1A tournament featured the Shamrocks of Jacksonville Our Saviour and the Knights of Ottawa Marquette. The Shamrocks outlasted the Knights 43-34 and will now play in the second quarterfinal game of the day at 6:30 later today. Revenge was on the mind of Our Saviour as this game was a rematch of last year when these two teams met each other in the first round of the 2014 7th grade tournament with Marquette winning last year 44-37. This was an excellent game that was a see saw affair. A half court bomb at the end of the first quarter by Logan Komater from Ottawa Marquette cut the Our Saviour lead to 15-14 as the teams started the 2nd quarter. Marquette stepped up its defensive pressure in that second quarter and led 23-22 at the half. But, the second half belonged to the Shamrocks as they led 31-29 entering the final stanza. Marquette did not score its first points of the 4th quarter until Evan Green nailed a 3 pointer with just 1:36 remaining in the game to cut the Shamrock lead to 4 at 36-32. From that point on though the Shamrocks turned numerous steals into layups and free throw attempts making just enough from the charity stripe to keep the Knights at bay. Our Saviour could have put the game away earlier but they were only able to convert 6 of 17 free throws in the 4th quarter. Congratulations to both teams on excellent seasons.
