| Game Comments: The East St. Louis Lincoln Tigers captured the 1st place trophy Thursday evening in the 8th grade Class 4A state championship game with a 60-47 victory over the previously undefeated Jaguars of Springfield Jefferson. The contest was fast paced from the beginning with Jefferson holding a lead for the majority of the game. The Jaguars led 14-10 after one period, 32-28 after 2 periods, and 43-39 as the teams headed into the 4th quarter. But, the Tigers roared back in the final stanza as they outscored Jefferson 21-4 in the 4th period. Leading the way in the 4th period for Lincoln was Jermaine Grissom who scored 10 of his game high 31 points in the last quarter. The 31 points was a new 8th grade Class 4A title game record. With this 8th grade championship, Lincoln holds both the 7th and 8th grade titles as the Tigers captured the 7th grade state title last Thursday as well. Congratulations to both teams on tremendous seasons. |
