Game Comments: Bolingbrook Jane Addams claimed 3rd place honors in the 8th grade Class 4A basketball tournament with a thrilling 48-46 victory over New Lenox Liberty. Jane Addams closes their season with a 24-3 record while Liberty completes their season with 24 wins and 4 losses. Liberty led early 9-4 after the first quarter but Jane Addams came roaring back in the second quarter to take a two point lead at halftime. Liberty led 30-28 heading into the final stanza and the lead changed hands several times in final quarter. With 3:18 left in the game, Trey Mack of Jane Addams hit a 5 footer to give the Mustangs a 38-36 advantage. Liberty answered with five consecutive points, two on a bucket by Trey Telez and three free throws by Jay Bumstead when he was fouled outside the three point line. Down 41-38, Jane Addams reeled off seven consecutive points. Mack hit a huge 3 pointer for Jane Addams to tie the game at 41 with 2:27 left, Cameron Harris had a bucket for the Mustangs and with 1:34 left, Harris put in a rebound bucket to give Jane Addams a 45-41 lead. Liberty got a bucket by Bumstead with 1:18 remaining and tied it at 45 on two free throws by Marco Pettinato who led Liberty with 15 points. The teams traded one free throw each to tie the game at 46. With :3.8 seconds remaining, Jane Addams called a timeout to set up a play to win the game. On the inbounds pass, Mack was fouled. He went to the line for the one and bonus and he calmly made both free throws to give Jane Addams a 48-46 lead. The inbounds pass by Liberty was knocked away giving Jane Addams the victory. An interesting side note about this game--Trey Mack from Jane Addams will be taking home his third state trophy in three years. As a 6th grader he started on the 7th grade team that captured 2nd place. Last year as a 7th grader, he started on the 8th grade team that took home 2nd place honors; and with his school's win tonight he is taking home the 3rd place trophy as an 8th grader.

Congratulations to both teams.
