Game Comments: The Tigers of East St. Louis will be looking to capture both the 7th and 8th grade class 4A state basketball titles after the Tigers defeated New Lenox Liberty, 58-45, Saturday evening. Lincoln will now play in the championship game on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. while Liberty will take their 24-3 record into the third place game which will start at 6:00 p.m. on the same day. The game was close throughout but a definite game changer was the 3 point bucket at the end of the third quarter by Davion Nash of Lincoln which gave the Tigers a six point lead, 39-33, heading into the fourth quarter. Nash scored six of his game high 25 points in the fourth quarter as Lincoln outscored Liberty 19-12 in the final stanza. The closet the Patriots could get in the 4th quarter was 7 points at 47-40 with 2:40 left in the game after Connor Lowman got a rebound bucket for Liberty. From that point on, Lincoln outscored Liberty 11-5 to seal the victory. Good luck to both teams on Thursday. |
