Game Comments: New Lenox Liberty outlasted Normal Kingsley, 50-38, in the first game of the 8th Grade Class 4A tournament, and will now advance to the first semi-final game at 5:00 p.m. later this evening. The Patriots will take a 24-2 record into that contest while the Cavaliers complete their 2012-13 season with a final record of 20 wins and 7 losses. Liberty started off strong and jumped to an early 14-4 lead after one quarter. Marco Pettinato and Trey Telex scored all of the points in the 1st quarter for Liberty. Kingsley was able to stay close after the first quarter but the Patriots seemed to have an answer each time Kingsley made a run. The closest Kingsley got was 7 points in the 4th quarter when Jake McCaw stole the ball and scored a layup to cut the lead to 41-34 with 3:59 left in the game. Telex led the Patriots with 16 points whil McCaw led Kingsley with 11 tallies. Congratulations to both teams on outstanding seasons and good luck to New Lenox Liberty the rest of the tournament. |
