Congratulations to the Rochester JHS Baseball Team who has down outstanding work in raising awareness on the need for AED’s at venues!

The Rochester JHS baseball team has been involved in a project called Genius Hour. They are working with local stakeholders to research and find funds to have an AED installed at Rochester Park where they play and practice. The idea for this project came from a tragedy in their community. At a home game, a parent that coached his son's youth team on an adjacent field had a medical emergency that required CPR, and the use of the school AED that is carried to all practices and games.

The RJHS players came up with the idea of how to install a permanent AED at the park. They researched different types of AED stands along with the initial cost and upkeep/maintenance of the unit. They have presented their idea to the village personnel, and school admin team, and they are scheduled to present at an upcoming board meeting along with proposing to the village board.

Well done RJHS Baseball!

EAST ST. LOUIS YOUNGE CROSS COUNTRY TEAM APPLAUDED
October 15, 2022- Submitted by IHSA Official Jason Gray

While all the kids and schools were great sports at the recent 1A Cross Country Sectional H, the athletes from Wyvetter Younge in ESL took it to the next level. St John was handing out drinks and cookies at the end of each race. Wyvetter Younge athletes started helping. They gathered and cheered and assisted with the treat handout until the very last athlete finished, who was not from their school. They were there long after most people had left the finish line area. They should be commended for their ‘above and beyond’ sportsmanship.
