| Match Comments: Albion came back in both the first and third games to pull out the victory. Down 20-9 in the first game, the Lions rode the deadly serving of Rebecca Winemiller to erase that deficit and take a 22-20. In that flurry of serves, Winemiller had eight ace serves. Mendon Unity went back on top 24-22 on a block by Breanne Begeman and then three serves for points by Blake Houston. Albion's Chelsea Pride followed that with a pair of ace serves and teammate Dionna Dawson finished the scoring with a running kill from the middle. In game 2, Mendon Unity jumped to an 8-2 lead. Albion narrowed a 19-14 deficit to 19-18 and then went ahead 22-21 on a slap spike by Ashley Gillard. Albion's Dionna Dawson hit a spike into the net to give Mendon Unity a 23-22 lead and Mendon Unity's Shelby Hilgenbrink served for the final two points of the game, the last when Dawson hit another spike into the net. In game 3, Albion trailed 10-5, then 16-7, then 18-12 before Albion's Rebecca Winemiller came alive at the net. Her kill cut the Albion deficit to 21-18. Then her stuff cut the deficit to 21-20 and her spike into the middle tied the score at 21-21. Her blast off Mendon Unity's Karley Peters put Albion ahead 23-21 and her push shot made it 24-22. Mendon Unity got the next point on a kill by Shelby Hilgenbrink to make it a 24-23 game. After a long series of great volleys, Albion's Amie Bunting landed an off balance kill for the clincher. |
