Game Comments: Effingham JHS and Frankfort Summit Hill played the best game of the day but it was the Spartans who came out on top and will now play Canton Ingersoll for the Class 4A championship Thursday, December 12. Trailing 13-11 at the intermission, Summit Hill outscored Effingham 5-1 in the 3rd quarter to take a 16-14 lead into the 4th quarter. Carsyn Fearday nailed a 3 pointer to give Effingham a 17-16 lead and Madison Buscher put in a rebound basket at the 4:47 mark to make it a 19-16 lead in favor of Effingham. Summit Hill caught fire from that point on and came right back when Katarina Savic scored a layup at the 3:50 mark to cut the deficit to one at 19-18. The Spartans took the lead at 20-19 on a basket by Kaley Sheehan. Taylorville then got a bucket from Miranda Fox to give Taylorville the lead, 21-20. However, those were the last points for the Mustangs as Summit Hill scored the final seven points of the game with the biggest shot being a 3 pointer by Sydney Nekola that gave Summit Hill the lead for good at 23-21. Nekola finished with 12 points all coming on four 3 point field goals. It will be a battle of the unbeaten in the championship game as Summit Hill will take their 26-0 record into the contest against Canton Ingersoll with their 25-0 record. Effingham (19-3) will play Taylorville for third place. Good luck to both teams on Thursday.
