Game Comments: Country Club Hills Southwood squared off against Channahon in the 3rd place game of the 7th grade class 4A tournament. Southwood led for most of the entire game and led 30-27 heading into the 4th quarter. With 3:48 left in the game and Southwood leading 32-28, Evan Gilyard went to the line for the Wildcats. However, he missed both attempts. The score remained 32-28 until Johnny Butler nailed a 3 pointer from the top of the key to pull the Indians within one at 32-31 with :52 showing on the clock. Antwon Hicks, who led the Wildcats with 12 points, responded for Southwood with 24 seconds left when he made both free throws giving his team the lead 34-31. Channahon brought the ball down the court and Butler made a nice pass to Tyler Talbot who scored an easy layup to cut the lead to one at 34-33. Gilyard was fouled with 11 seconds to go and he went to the line for a one and one. He missed the front end, Channahon grabbed the rebound and called a timeout. Afte the timeout and on the inbounds pass, Southwood was called for an intentional foul. Butler went to the line and made both of the free throws to give Channahon the lead at 35-34. However, on the inbounds pass after the free throws, Gilyard stole the ball. Southwood immediately called a time out with 4 ticks left on the clock. They set up a play for a potential game winning shot but the ball did not drop and Channahon won the game 35-34. Congratulations to both teams and good luck next year in the 8th grade.
