Andrew Holt blasted a two-run homer for Holy Trinity in the top of the third to put the Saints on top 3-2. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Alex Brown ripped a one-out solo home run for St. Anthony in the bottom of the seventh. Then pinch hitter Greg Schmidt singled into the gap in right to score Justin Schutzbach to tie the game and send it into extra innings. Holy Trinity got one of its three runs in the top of the ninth when Tom Prior squeezed home Brad Bourne with the bases loaded. The Saints scored the final two runs on back to back errors by the St. Anthony catcher on plays at the plate. Bloomington Holy Trinity advances to the title game with a 23-4 record. Effingham St. Anthony goes to the third place game with a 14-5 record. Effingham St. Anthony lost to Effingham JHS during the regular season in the third game of the year. St. Anthony then won 13 of its next 14 heading into today's semifinal game. Effingham JHS was playing in the Class AA State Tournament second semifinal game. With the two Effingham schools in the semifinals, it is only the second time in IESA state baseball tournament history when two schools from the same town will take home trophies from the respective Class A and Class AA State Finals. The last time was in 1992 when Bloomington Holy Trinity took second in Class A and Bloomington JHS took third in Class AA.
