| NOTE: Prior to 2001, pitchers were allowed to throw a maximum of seven (7) innings in one (1) day. Beginning in 2001, on a two-year trial basis, pitchers were allowed to throw a maximum of nine (9) innings in one day. Beginning in 2003, the maximum seven (7) innings in one (1) day rule was reinstated and remained through 2016. Starting in 2017, a pitch count limitation was instituted which only allows a pitcher to throw a maximum of 90 pitches in one day.

The IESA sanctioned boys baseball in 1955. There was one class of boys baseball until 1990 when the activity was split into A and AA based upon enrollment. It was split again in 2006 into the current three classes of 1A, 2A and 3A.
