The IESA uses IHSA licensed officials. The IHSA Officials Department oversees the licensing and testing of Illinois' 13,000 high school officials. Officials are licensed through the IHSA in 11 different sports: baseball, basketball, football, boys gymnastics, girls gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, track and field, volleyball, and wrestling. Once licensed, officials are required to attend a rules clinic and take a written rules test each year in each sport in which they are licensed.
The IESA uses licensed officials for the following state tournament series: softball, baseball, cross-country, basketball, wrestling, volleyball, and track and field. Five years experience as a registered IHSA official is recommended for officials used in IESA state tournament series.
If you are currently a licensed official and are interested in officiating for any of the IESA state tournaments, please access the "IESA Recommendation of Official" link found below. The link will take you to a recommendation form. For each official in every sport, four (4) forms must be completed and returned to the IESA Office. The forms must be signed by administrators and coaches of IESA member schools. Once we have received all four recommendations, your name will be placed on our approved list. It is from this list that officials are hired to work our sectional and state tournaments. An availability sheet will automatically be sent to you for the next available state series. If you are interested in working regional tournament play, please contact the schools in your area. Officials at the regional level for IESA games are currently hired by the host schools.
Thank you for your interest in the officiating IESA activities. If you have questions, please contact the IESA Office.
